It’s the Spring 2021 Kick-Off! In this episode we speak with Professor Scott Decker about his career development and reflections, as well as the ups and downs that accompany such a successful career. We spend a good amount of time discussing a topic that most of us are familiar with but very few talk about: failure.
Scott is a Foundation Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University. His main research interests are in gangs, violence, and the criminal justice system. Scott has authored eighteen books, including Life in the gang: Family, friends, and violence (Cambridge, 1996) and Competing for Control: Gangs and the social order of prisons (2019), and over 140 scientific articles in outlets such as Criminology, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Justice Quarterly, and Criminology & Public Policy. Scott is a Fellow in the American Society of Criminology and the Academy of Criminal Justice Studies.
