In this episode we speak with Professor Valerie Jenness about her work on incarceration and the victimization of transgender women who are incarcerated.
Valerie is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at the University of California, Irvine. Her research is focused on law and inequality, correctional policy and practice, and gender and sexuality. Her published work on the prostitutes’ rights movement, hate crime law, prison violence and victimization, and the prisoner grievance system in California has been honored with awards from professional societies, including the American Society of Criminology and the Law and Society Association, and has informed public policy. Valerie is president-elect for the 2023-2024 meeting of the American Society of Criminology.
