Episode 36. Convict Criminology with Grant Tietjen and Jennifer Ortiz

Debating language and how we identify ourselves. In this episode we speak with Professors Grant Tietjen and Jennifer Ortiz about their work on convict criminology.

Grant is an associate professor of criminal justice at St. Ambrose University. He received his PhD from the Department of Sociology at University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He has been involved with Convict Criminology since 2005, mentoring new Convict Criminology members, publishing scholarship, and serving as the group’s Co-Chair from 2017-2019. In 2020, he was appointed the inaugural Chair of the newly formed American Society of Criminology Division of Convict Criminology..

Jennifer is an assistant professor of criminology and criminal justice at Indiana University Southeast. She received her PhD in Criminology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Her research centers on structural violence within the criminal justice system with a focus on reentry post-incarceration. She has been an active member of Convict Criminology for three years and currently serves as an Executive Counselor of the Division of Convict Criminology.
