It’s Episode 83 of The Criminology Academy podcast! On today’s episode, we have Dr. Pamela Buckley on the podcast. We discuss intervention programs, Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development, and her paper on racial and ethnic representation in preventive intervention research!
Pamela Buckley is an associate research professor in the Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is also the Principal Investigator of Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development (Blueprints), a globally- recognized registry of experimentally proven interventions promoting rigorous scientific standards for certification that serves as a resource for governmental agencies, foundations, community organizations, and practitioners seeking to make informed decisions about their investments in preventive interventions. Her expertise is in evidence-based decision-making, i.e., the use of scientific evidence to inform decisions about social programs and policies for youth. Her scholarship focuses on interdisciplinary and applied research to understand what works, for whom and under what circumstances, and in generating reliable evidence concerning responses to educational, health, and social problems. She received the 2023 Society for Prevention Research (SPR) Nan Tobler Award for her contributions to the summarization or articulation of the empirical evidence relevant to prevention. SPR noted how Dr. Buckley’s leadership in the use of research generated from the Blueprints registry has contributed to the importance of ensuring that evidence-based interventions are not only based on sound science but are also representative of diverse populations, readily accessible, and transparently presented.
